Final Training Run

One last final training run today before this weekend's Goofy Challenge - an 8 mile run with some speed work. Coach Lisa typically throws in a speed training workout a few days before my big events, and I find that it helps a lot. Although the Rocky Raccoon 50 mile is just 3 weeks away, I am actually looking forward to working hard this weekend at Disney. The plan for the Half Marathon is to simply run with my wife, take pictures, carry her junk and help her to knock it out. She ran the Disney Half last year in about 2:20 - I'm shooting to push her to at least a 2:10. We will see how things go on Sunday for the Disney Marathon, but as of now, I'm going to give it my all.
.
Back to back events are pretty tough. In 2006 I ran two marathons on consecutive days - The New Jersey Marathon as part of the Endurance 50 event on November 4 (in about 4:18) and the New York City Marathon on November 5 (in about 4:27). Both times were far slower then my personal best 3:40, but I can say that I really felt it at the start of the second marathon. My legs and muscles were already sore and tight, and it took several miles before I was able to loosen up.
.
Tomorrow we are off to Orlando on an early AM flight. We are supposed to get nasty, windy, rainy weather here tonight into tomorrow, so I'm crossing my fingers that we don't have travel troubles. I will post a race report on the Half Marathon (with pictures) on Saturday, and another on Sunday for the Full.

  10. Thanks for the good wishes everyone.

Jess - this is actually my 4th consecutive Disney Marathon. I was supposed to do Goofy last year but my daughter got sick and I had to bail on the half. So far so good this year.
