Getting There

Things are getting a bit better health-wise, but I'm just not there yet. The cough continues (as it does for several people in my germ-infested office), but the stuffy nose and headaches have disappeared. Last night I put in 30 minutes of spinning and some ab work. I got a reprieve from Runner 26 who allowed me to join her National Ab Month quest after missing a few days of ab workouts while I was at Rocky Raccoon - check out her post from Friday, February 1 on National Ab Month. Basically, you are supposed to so some form of ab work each day throughout the month of February.

It was tough to get up at 5:00 AM this morning. I always find it difficult to get up early after sleeping in several days in a row (even though sleeping in to me is 6:30 AM). Nevertheless, I put in a very easy 3 miles. Tomorrow the wife and I will head to Rockies for an hour and a half run.

I have decided to send in my application for Javelina Jundred 100. I'm not 100 percent committed to heading out to Arizona in November, and JFK 50 may still be the way to go, but I heard a lot about Javelina at Rocky Raccoon and it seems like a fun time (if you can call running 100 miles a hard time). This will make for 3 100-mile events this year, all within a 6-month time frame. We'll have to run that by Coach Lisa for approval.

Oh, speaking of Coach Lisa, make sure to check out her blog. It contains a series of posts over the course of the last few days called "On the Race Front" including one from me, in which a few runners from Rocky Raccoon answer 5 questions about the race and preparation for it. The questions are : (1) What surprised you most about the race ? (2) What advice helped you achieve your goal ? (3) Did you meet any new friends on the course ? (4) Is there something you learned that you'll use in future races (good, bad and ugly) ? and (5) Any words of advice for others thinking about doing an ultra ? Check it out - there are some great responses from a bunch of ultra runners.

  1. I'm sending my app in for Javelina too :) It's a disease.

  2. Glad to hear you're coming around ;-) I'llhave to go check out the links. Thanks homie ;D

  3. what no jfk? :-( how will I finish without U & Meredith.

  4. Bob- JFK is the bane of my existence. I hate that race!!! I only go because of peer pressure! You should come out to Arizona. There is a 100K option too.
