Today's Run & Possible Umstead Trip - UPDATED 10:25 AM

The cold weather continues to linger in the Northeast. It was a cool 25 degrees at 5:00 AM when I set out for a little speed training session. I alternated running a mile at "easy" pace and a mile at "hard" pace for 6 miles, averaging an 8:30 pace. I also got in an hour or so of weights (legs and back) and some ab work.

The Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run is on April 5th. There are a ton of friends running the race, including Tom T., Doug V., Meredith, Emmy, and Frank. I am strongly considering a Saturday AM flight to Raleigh/Durham to provide pacing duties for Meredith in her quest for a sub-24:00 100. It would involve a crazy weekend of flights in and out of Raleigh/Durham, and some cooperation from the family. Oh, the pressure !

UPDATE:

Ok, I'm booked. It will be a crazy weekend, but I'll arrive in Raleigh/Durham at 10:15 AM on Saturday (Meredith will be 4+ hours into the race), pace her for 25-30 miles (most likely the last 2 or so laps during the late Saturday/early Sunday hours), and head home on a 6:00 PM flight on Sunday.

  4. Anthony --wouldn't it be great if you came to Umstead? You would have to consider your April 12 50 miler, as that is your priority, when you decide about the 60K and umstead --but if these long runs don't kill you they will make you stronger!
Frank and I decided against travelling to the HAT run..as the local one is easier to get to. I will walk alot of it, as it is on pavement! and got my new Brooks Cascadias -need to try them on Sat.
I ran 2 miles in them and love them so far.

  5. I think you might want to seek counseling for your addiction! Naah, just kidding! I'm right there with ya friend, I wish I lived closer so I could go too!

  6. Emmy - You will love the Cascadias. I'm in for Umstead...I'll be out there all day cheering you guys on, then will pace Meredith. The 60k may be a little bit too much.

Mark - I, without a doubt, need counseling.

  9. Now that's what I call 'going to great lengths' for a friend. Great idea with the slide show in the previous post too.
