Back to the Grind

Just one day of rest after pacing at the New Jersey Marathon and it is back to the grind. I threw in some speed training in the middle of today's 5:00 AM run - a few 6 minute bursts at hard effort. I'm looking forward to treating Saturday's Long Island Greenbelt Trail 50k as a fun run with a bunch of friends. Rumor also has it that Annette Bednosky will be returning to defend her 2007 title. Of course, the usual crew including Frank and Emmy will be there. I hope to have a preview of the race up in the coming days.

Today is supposed to be National Teacher Day (so, hug your teacher). It is also International No Diet Day - a day for all to appreciate the body we have and recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes. International No Diet Day was created by Mary Evans Young (the director of the group "Diet Breakers") in 1992 after personally experiencing anorexia. She founded the group to help people appreciate themselves for what they are and how they look. "Anti-diet groups exist to assist and support people who suffer illnesses like anorexia, in their efforts to shed fat and be thin. In addition to anorexia, other medical problems can result from taking diet pills, and surgeries, such as stomach stapling, to control weight. International No Diet Day is a good opportunity to reassess and evaluate your weight management goals and perspective, and to make certain your efforts to be thin don't come at a risk to your health."
