2008 GTR 100 Training Diary - 6/13

Dear GTR 100 Training Diary -

Friday the 13th....yikes. Maybe I should just stay in bed today....NOT. Slept an extra 15 minutes this morning, opting for a 5:00 A.M. workout. Although I hate, hate, hate the "dread"-mill, I find that it is a great tool to work on power-walking / hiking, a tool that is very, very important when running long ultra-distances. So, today's workout started with 50 minutes of power-walking, keeping a pace around 15 minutes per mile, and varying the incline along the way (mostly sticking to a 5.0 incline). That was followed by an hour of weight training, focusing on the chest, shoulders and triceps, and 280 reps of ab work.

Does anyone out there suffer from paraskavedekatriaphobia? Yes, that is the fancy word for the irrational fear of the day of Friday 13th (not to be confused with triskaidekaphobia, the fear of the number 13). This affliction is also commonly referred to as friggatriskaidekaphobia. It is also believed that if you manage to say this word out loud that day you will not have bad luck, so, make sure to say it.

  3. Frank - Probably not. The girls both have soccer and I'm only putting in 2-3 hours tomorrow. 100k is a bit much.
