Official GTR 100 Mile Training Kickoff

Today marks the official start of my training for the Grand Teton 100 Mile Race. With less than 80 days to go until the race, I'm considering an attempt at chronicling my training on a daily basis right here at The Run-a-long-way Blog, without, of course, giving away any secrets of the great coach, Lisa Smith-Batchen (you'll have to hire her full time to have access to all of her tips and tricks).

With all of the races that I've run in the last 5 months (including 3 50-milers and 2 50ks), I feel as if I have established a firm mileage base, averaging somewhere between 35-40 miles per week since the beginnign of 2008. So, to kick off GTR100 training, I put in a steady 8 miles early this morning to avoid some of the 95+ degree temperatures we've been having in New York City over the past few days - it was a cool 70 degrees at 5:00 A.M.

  1. Looking forward to heading back to the Grand Teton 100 with you :) We are going to have killer sophomore runs there, i know it!

btw, you should run in the heat for your heat training, mister. Badwater is just a month away.

  2. Good luck with your GTR 100 training!

  3. Woo-hoo! Tony's going to be at GTR. Me too (don't know if I'm doing the 50 or 100.... hell, who am I kidding? I'm doing the 50) and we have to make sure Colleen is out there too..
...she's working too much these days.

  4. Howdy, Tony! So what do you expect your weekly mileage to look like while training for a 100 miler as opposed to a 50 miler? Just curious.
