Recovering From The 100 Miler

For several days after GTR100 my left knee was somewhat swollen and stiff (along with my feet, ankles, calves, quads, etc....). As I am a bit squeamish when it comes to injury and illness (and I'm simply NOT a doctor person), I've been a bit worried.  I took the past week off completely - no running, no biking, no weights...nothing at all.  Today I met up with Wayne to see how things felt.

After having a senior moment (probably due to reading Anne's post yesterday - "My Senior Moment") - I had my knee brace all ready to go on the counter, talked all night about not forgetting it, but drove to the park without it - there was good news and weird news.  The knee held up just fine, except for a little tightness below the knee cap.  But, my right toe is nice and swollen and has a bump on it that hurts like the dickens !  ARGH !!

I'm also starting to think about next year's race schedule (especially since the Umstead 100 registration opened and filled within what seemed like minutes on Wednesday). Much of my plans for 2009 will center around whether or not I get into Badwater (which I WILL apply for in January).  So far the schedule includes the Walt Disney Work Half and Full Marathons (January), Umstead 100 (April), GTR100 (September) and Pineland Farms 50 Mile (May), as well as the usual local 50ks.

  5. Stephanie -

R2R2R is a possibility, although a lot depends on Badwater. I am going to try to tone down the travelling this year, and maybe do some more pacing/crewing.

  6. Rest is always helpful, especially when a runner piles on the miles like you do!
