It was a successful weekend for an entire crew of friends at the 2009 Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run. A full race report with pictures and in-race, finishing and post-race videos will be posted in the next few days. As I had predicted over a week before the race, my good buddy Dave James won it all (15:05:10) - told you so, Dave !
I had a very consistent race, finishing in 21 hours 39 minutes and 37 seconds - a new 100 mile PR by about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was extremely lucky to have the company of superstar Jennifer Vogel for 2 of the 8 loops (6 and 7). Jennifer then set me up with a race provided pacer, Karl, for the final loop. I had no major problems to write about, and, thanks to Drymax Socks, no blisters to talk about.
Amazing performances to note :
Dave James (15:05:10) - First Overall
Doug Vaughn (21:05:48)
Emmy Stocker (22:18:49)
Wayne Bates (23:12:49) - Prettiest Pair of Crocs
Joe Galioto (23:26:02) - Did Not Fall Once
Lane Vogel (26:14:25)
Tammy Massie (27:46:48)
Bob Gentile (28:14:22) - Did Not Get Lost
Derek Hills (28:14:22)
Congrats to everyone, and also to Jill Perry for setting a new female course record (16:02:27). More good stuff to follow.

Congratulations on a fabulous run! Looks like some really fast times out there this year. Nice job!

Anthony,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on an amazing performance! You looked great out there on the course. And PRing for a 100 miler (just 2 months after RR100) by 45 minutes is quite an accomplishment.
I hope getting on your work shoes was not too painful today...thank goodness I work in a casual environment because I am still wearing my light sandals I put on after the race...I do not see any shoes on my feet in my future for another few days:-)
Tammy
You KILLED it, Man!! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is there left to say that I hadn't already typed or communicated via phone. You ran a great race! Looking forward to pictures, videos and the report.
ReplyDeleteSo impressed Tony. I am truly pumped for you.
ReplyDeleteYou really deserved and earned such a strong performance.

ReplyDeleteYou killed your PR!! WOOT!! I bet you guys had another blast!
ReplyDeleteHey Tony, great job! You looked strong out there.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the mention. I didn't know I had a reputation for falling. However, not only did I not fall, I posted a 3.5 hour PR.
Really great job everyone!!!
Anthony, I talked to Rick on Sunday afternoon, and he said you ran a really good race....said you started out a little to fast but really didn't slow down too much from the 1st half to the 2nd half. Congrats on a PR and a great race.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new PR!

Tony, Way to really nail Umstead! Savor the big PR... but start building that fire to sneak under 20 hours! :-)
ReplyDelete"Good morning, good morning", nice start to your run there. Great videos, man that one with Bob finishing, looks so painful - the walk and the bloody sneaks, still smiling though. Great race for you and it's only April! Rest up, recover and hope the rest of your runs turn out just as well.
