Weekly Training Summary (Badwater Training Week 7 of 10)

This has been, by far, the most difficult 7 weeks of training I have ever experienced, not only on a physical level, but also mentally and emotionally.  A nagging, frustrating left leg/groin injury has been eating at my confidence since the Pineland Farms 50 Mile Race.  A week-long focus on cross-training and sauna training had me feeling better, but Friday's return to the trails was disheartening.  Saturday was better, a longer run at a nice pace, but there is definitely an issue still lingering. With 3 weeks to go until Badwater, it may simply be time to sit back and enjoy a long taper.

Monday, June 14, 2010
AM - 30 minutes on the stationary bike followed by 30 minutes of sauna training.
PM - 9.00 miles in 1:26:00 at Rockefeller State Park with Herb.  Left leg/groin continues to protest...decision has been made to cease all running until Friday.

PM Run Elevation Profile (Relatively flat w/a few hills)

Tuesday, June 15, 2010
AM - 30 minutes on the stationary bike followed by 25 minutes of sauna training (up to 200 degrees).
PM - 45 minutes on the stationary bike followed by core work and stretching.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010
20 minutes on the stationary bike followed by 30 minutes of sauna training.  Left leg/groin feeling better during the day.  Having running withdrawal symptoms and looking forward to a short go at it on Friday.

Thursday, June 17, 2010
Took a day off from training for the first time in 46 days.

Friday, June 18, 2010
3.5 miles in 31:00 at Rockefeller State Park.  20 minutes of sauna training - the sauna hit 208 degrees!

Saturday, June 19, 2010
12 miles in 1:48:09.  30 minutes of sauna training at up to 210 degrees!  Still battling this left leg issue.  A friend recommended a massage which I just might have to look into.

Elevation Profile of Saturday's Run

Sunday, June 20, 2010
5.75 miles in 54:15.  30 minutes of sauna training at up to 208 degrees.  Much better leg-wise than yesterday, likely as a result of the ice/heat and stretching routine for the better part of Saturday.  Feeling much better about this.

Updated comparison of this year's Badwater training to last year's (still well ahead):

  1. Keep it up Tony. 3 weeks to go!

  2. Hang in there...pullin' for you!

  3. May the home remedies continue to heal your nagging injury. And you are sure it isn't your hip you hurt? I ask only because I misdiagnosed a fractured femoral neck as a groin pull and ran a marathon on it. That was all she wrote.
