By the time this posts we will be at Stovepipe Wells Village, gearing up for Monday's big race. This final week of training saw a big reduction in mileage, a continued focus on heat training, and, of course, countless hours of gear preparation and packing. As usual, I got my pre-race / taper cold, but it was just about done with by Friday.
On Monday (7/5), Shannon and Sid came to visit and we did a nice 6 miles (51:37; 8:36 pace) on the North County Trail. Tuesday (7/6) and Wednesday (7/7) were days where my head cold was at its worst, leading to two off days (one was actually a planned day of rest). Thursday (7/8) was my last run in New York prior to departing for Badwater, 5.5 miles (50:56; 9:15 pace) with Aaron at Rockefeller State Park. The plan is to get in a couple of short, easy runs once we get to Death Valley: an easy 3 miles on Friday (7/9), a 10 minute jog on Saturday (7/10), and a relaxed, 20 minute jog on Sunday (7/11).
